Our News team sits at the heart of the operation, producing the biggest exclusives while being first to breaking stories and the best news coverage across our platforms.

Purpose of role:

To lead the Daily News team providing peerless breaking news coverage across print and digital.

Key accountabilities:

• Manage the daily news list, setting the agenda for the day and working with the Editors and Audience team to decide how it will be covered
• Responsibility for breaking news coverage and the team’s live blogging as well as all-round stories
• Maintaining strong communication with reporters on stories, ensuring the best lines are published ahead of our rivals
• Manage the team of in-office reporters, recruiting and developing talent and setting performance targets then ensuring they are met
• Running the news operation’s on the road reporters, getting quick snaps for online, while pulling all the various strands of information together for a complete newspaper story at the end of the day
• Ensure every news story looks and sounds as good as it can, with sharp headlines and making best use of pictures and video
• Work closely with the Exclusives team, sharing resources
• Work with the Audience team to ensure stories are optimised for SEO and have the best social sell
• Work with the legal team to take responsibility for the team’s compliance with IPSO and legal issues
• Oversee the team’s rotas and story payments

Key Skills and Experience:

• Experience of managing a team
• Unflappable under pressure.
• A passion for The Sun brand
• Knowledge of SEO, social audiences and an understanding of how to recirculate readers within The Sun and keep them engaged.Strong knowledge of the Editor’s Code of Practice and media law
