Job Details

POLITICO Europe is looking for a policy reporter to be based in Brussels to cover one of the most colorful and contentious topics in Europe: agricultural and food policy.

The successful candidate will also contribute to our reporting of trade deals, Brexit and the internal market.

Food and farming often lie at the heart of some of the EU’s biggest political clashes.

This is a diverse beat that ranges from intra-EU battle on nutritional labels to the bloc’s cherished geographical indications for gourmet foods and how they’re negotiated with powerful international partners.

The transition to a more sustainable farming and food system as a key objective of the EU’s Green Deal is also core to the beat.

The reporter will be part of a team that covers core policy issues such as pesticides regulation or the Common Agricultural Policy.

Agricultural and food interests are also fundamental to the EU’s trade agenda and the role will also involve covering trade issues.

The successful candidate will have an eye for detail and a track record of rigorous reporting and appetite for scoops.

He or she should be a team-worker, with an understanding of how policy is made and influenced by people within governments, lobby groups and industry.

This is a maternity cover contract.

Please submit applications by 18 September.

  • College degree or equivalent
  • At least two years’ newsroom experience
