The team: Audience
The Audience Editor will lead the audience team, who will work with editors and journalists across the newsroom to grow an engaged audience in line with our editorial strategy and tone.
About you
We are looking for a leader who thrives in a fast-paced and dynamic newsroom, has excellent SEO and social media skills and is passionate about news and current affairs.
You will have a flair for identifying stories and topics that interest and resonate with the Evening Standard's existing and loyal audience while attracting engaged new readers.
You will be an excellent communicator who can work with senior editors, data analysts and journalists across the newsroom to deliver immediate and long-term sustainable growth.
Skills and Experience
- A minimum of two years' experience in a digital news environment
- At least a year's experience in a national or regional newsroom.
- Outstanding news sense.
- Knowledge of what stories and subjects work online, in print and those that work across both
- Expertise in using SEO, social media and analytics tools
- Ability to interpret data and make insightful recommendations.
- Experience of managing a team
- Ability to build relationships in newsroom and leadership team.
- Organised, with the ability to plan social and SEO coverage for major events
- Understanding of how to engage with the unique ES audience
- Understand the ES brand and tone and be able to appropriately translate that onto social media channels
Key responsibilities and accountabilities
- Maximising reach and engagement for content across our key verticals / channels and meeting traffic targets
- Identifying on-brand stories with high traffic / engagement potential
- Presenting data analysis and pitching story ideas to senior editors
- Lead staff training programme to ensure best SEO and Social Media practice is followed by all journalists in our digital first newsroom.
- Manage a team of SEO / Social Media producers to ensure all sections / departments are optimising their content for all platforms
- Ensure editorial output is on-brand and fulfils our editorial strategy requirements
- Work with data analysts to identify areas for growth and improvement
