Job Details

POLITICO Europe is looking for an experienced policy reporter to be based in Brussels to steer our coverage of one of the most important topics in Europe: sustainability.

The job involves reporting on a wide range of topics from waste legislation to air and water pollution, the circular economy, chemicals, biofuels, biodiversity and more.

The beat requires close coverage of EU institutions and regulatory bodies, but also writing about people and personalities and looking beyond the Brussels bubble at how EU policies are implemented and how they affect member countries.

The successful candidate will have an eye for detail, a track record of rigorous reporting and scoops, as well as the ability to write long-form stories. He or she should be a team-worker, with an understanding of how policy is made and influenced by people within governments, lobby groups and industry. An understanding of EU policymaking, and experience of reporting in Brussels or elsewhere in the EU27, would also be an advantage, as would strong language skills.

The reporter will contribute to our daily newsletter, write short news reports as well as longer features that appeal beyond a core audience. They will also be a public face of POLITICO at events and panels on topics related to sustainability.

Qualifications

  • College degree or equivalent
  • At least four years’ newsroom experience
  • Written and verbal fluency in English
  • Fluency in other European languages a strong plus

Equal Opportunity

It is POLITICO's policy to provide equal employment opportunity to all qualified individuals without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, gender, age or any other characteristic protected by local laws and regulations.

Company

POLITICO is a global news and information company at the intersection of politics and policy.

With publications based in Washington, D.C., New York and Brussels - and continued expansion into various state capitals in the United States - POLITICO has one of the most robust and rapidly expanding roster of journalists covering politics and policy in the world.

Since its launch in 2007, POLITICO has delivered journalism about politics and policy making that is more authoritative in its sophistication and nonpartisan perspective than any competitor; that is more useful to people with a professional interest in public affairs; and that is more fun to read for a community of people who love the drama and sheer sport of politics.

The central mission of POLITICO, from birth to our current period of growth, has been to help sustain and vastly expand nonpartisan political and policy journalism.

We all believe informing readers and holding leaders accountable is and will forever be essential to smart governance, regardless of shifts in technology and consumption habits.
