Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic, news-hungry and tech-savvy journalist to join the Reuters Hub for Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the nerve center of spot news coverage for the region. This role focuses on getting news to clients at speed, editing copy, monitoring local media and helping to cover breaking news in the Germany/Austria/Switzerland (DACH) region. It offers an opportunity to dive into the thick of the news file and experience many facets of coverage, from Germany’s federal elections to the Swiss National Bank or heavy-weight companies such as Siemens or Credit Suisse, in a fast-paced environment.

The role will help coordinate day-to-day coverage in the DACH region, plan coverage or routine and major events assign tasks to reporters, liaise with editors on Reuters’ Global News Desk as well as with bureaus around the world. The candidate will also be called upon to be a liaison for developers on editorial technology-related projects. The job requires a combination of quick wits, strong news judgment, technology skills, and an ability to work under pressure.

As a Hub Speed Editor at Reuters, you will:

  • Fill regular shifts monitoring media and regulatory feeds
  • Get news on companies, the economy, politics and general news to clients at speed
  • Coordinate spot news coverage for DACH bureaus
  • Write and edit spot news copy
  • Help to cover breaking news
  • Liaise with TV and pictures teams to ensure stories are multimedia
  • Play a key role in technology-related projects

To be our Hub Speed Editor, you will likely have:

  • An understanding of economics and corporate financial statements
  • Knowledge of the German, Austrian and Swiss company news universe and political landscape
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • The ability and desire to acquire new tech skills and share them with teammates
  • Fluent English, very strong German skills
  • Strong editing and writing skills
  • Excellent news judgment
  • The ability to work under pressure and handle a variety of activities simultaneously
