Reuters is looking for a driven and enterprising Metals Correspondent to uncover the metal sector’s most important stories, delving deep into an opaque industry. From the energy transition to squeezes at the London Metal Exchange,  warehousing scandals and sanctions on major producer Russia, there is wide scope on the metals beat for an ambitious correspondent.  

Based in London, the post offers opportunities to report on industrial and precious metals sectors around the world. The successful candidate will produce a full range of Reuters stories – building a substantial spot news file, writing daily market reports, and delivering exclusives and enterprising special reports.

About this Job

As a Metals Correspondent, you will:

  • Report on metals markets and pricing, on suppliers, buyers, traders and trading plays and write or contribute to daily market reports.
  • Break exclusives and write insightful news on industrial and precious metals.
  • Generate multiple ideas for initiative stories from Exclusives and Special Reports to Analysis and Insights.
  • Work with other reporters/editors in bureaus and globally on major stories.
  • Be fast and first with key major news that Reuters’ clients need to trade and/or make business decisions.


To be our Metals Correspondent, you are likely to have: 

  • Experience of the metals industry, its quirks and its occupants.
  • Knowledge of how the London Metal Exchange, physical metal markets and the metal industry works.
  • Exceptional source building skills.
  • Strong  news judgement and story conceptualization.
  • Good writing skills.
  • Appetite for investigative reporting.
  • Excellent team skills and a collaborative approach to coverage.
