Job Details

Reuters is looking for an energetic reporter to help cover Saudi Arabia, a country of profound importance to energy supplies, trade and investment flows and regional and international security. The successful candidate will have to be multi-skilled with strong initiative and relish a strong array of stories: Saudi Arabia is the world’s top oil exporter, the largest Arab economy and a regional political heavyweight that is undergoing rapid social and economic change.

A looming succession in the Sunni Muslim powerhouse amounts to an absorbing story as Prince Mohammed manages global and regional alliances, including strains with the United States and a regional rivalry with Shi’ite Iran, and pushes to modernise the Kingdom and wean it off oil.

Saudi Arabia is a great business story with bold projects, driven by sovereign wealth fund PIF, to attract foreign investment and create jobs for millions of Saudis, including the $500 million futuristic city NEOM and the transformation of oil giant Aramco, with plans for further share sales.

The position will be based in Riyadh and report directly to the chief correspondent for Saudi Arabia

As our Correspondent, Saudi Arabia, you will:

  • Work closely with the chief correspondent in Saudi Arabia on the political and general news file including multimedia stories on the rapidly changing social and business landscape
  • Collaborate with our Dubai-based financial and energy teams to break news, deliver exclusives and report insightful stories
  • Generate and pursue ideas that can drive the file forward in original ways including for multimedia clients

To be our Correspondent, Saudi Arabia, you will likely have:

  • At least three years reporting experience
  • Ability to cultivate sources
  • A knack for corporate and financial news
  • Strong writing skills
  • Fluency in English is essential, fluency in Arabic is preferred

Please note, the deadline for applications is Sunday 21st August 2022.
