JOB DESCRIPTION: 

We are looking for an experienced and multimedia-savvy editor to join our newsroom and lead our Inclusive Economies file.  

In this role, you will lead our global coverage of socio-economic inequality, fair labour, sustainable finance, the economic impacts of discrimination (race / gender / class / sexual orientation), ESG, informal economies, and other similar issues.  

Our journalists cover the world from Bangkok to Bogota, with on-the-ground reporting on climate, inclusive economies, and technology and its impact on society, while adhering to the Thomson Reuters Trust Principles of integrity, independence, and freedom from bias.  

You will inspire and guide your team to produce accessible and engaging news-led stories, agenda-setting features and delightful long reads that spotlight, contextualise and explore links between economic trends, policies and people. 

You understand a variety of digital formats, including text, images, audio and video, and have a good grasp of digital and social media platforms. 

London is our preferred location for this role, but other locations can also be considered. 

As Inclusive Economies Editor you will: 

  • Direct a global file covering inclusive economies for digital platforms and the wire service 
  • Manage a small team of correspondents based across the globe 
  • Produce news stories, features and investigations prioritising context, depth and insight 
  • Collaborate across editorial files (climate, tech, LGBTQ+) to produce unique, cross-sectional journalism 
  • Use audience data in editorial decision-making 
  • Ensure use of SEO and digital best practices in all output 
  • Work with the social media team to commission posts, video and graphics for social platforms 
  • Help develop a wide and diverse network of specialist freelancers and op-ed contributors  
  • Read widely and be up to date on global news and current affairs 


To be our  Inclusive Economies Editor you will likely have: 

  • Extensive journalism experience, including a track record of investigations and exclusives  
  • Expertise in reporting people-centered economic stories, particularly in the Global South 
  • Sound understanding of global geopolitics and macroeconomics 
  • Experience building and leading global teams of journalists 
  • Good understanding of social media platforms, audience building and engagement 
  • Familiarity with digital audience analytics 
  • Some experience with (or aptitude for) video and/or audio production 
  • Desire and aptitude for mentoring junior journalists 
  • Flexibility to work independently or with a team  
  • Strong command of written and spoken English 
  • Fluency in at least 1 other language
