Job Details

Web Producer for Data Visualization (Brussels/London)
POLITICO is looking for a creative and data-savvy journalist to join its production team.

This role will work within a team of producers to enhance and shape our use of data visualization, ensuring that our visual output is consistently creative and impactful.

The ideal candidate will have the skills required to pitch and produce infographics across a wide range of topics.

As part of the team, the successful candidate will also carry out a broad set of production tasks required to publish and promote POLITICO’s journalism.

This role would suit an early-career data journalist with newsroom experience or professional training. It is a full-time role based in our Brussels or London newsrooms.

This role will work to:

Improve the quality of visual storytelling across POLITICO’s platforms using data visualization.
Develop innovative, creative ways to tell stories using visuals.
Enhance the newsroom’s capability and visual skill.

Responsibilities include:

Help to identify, at the outset, the most efficient way to tell a story visually — whether by infographics, maps, illustration, photo-illustration or photography.
Research and analyze data to pitch and produce infographics across a wide range of topics.
Help to guide the newsroom’s use of infographics — by producing them and by teaching reporters and editors what makes a good graphic.
Work closely with colleagues to ensure quality and accuracy is maintained across all our products.
Proactively suggest new ways to tell stories and work with reporters and editors to test those ideas.
Keep abreast of visual innovation elsewhere and share this knowledge with the rest of the Production team and editors.
Work with the wider Production team to publish and promote articles, alerts and newsletters.
Be prepared to work shifts and weekends on a rotational basis, along with the rest of the production team.
Work with the Audience Development Editor and fellow producers to grow our following on social media.

Qualifications:

Experience working in a newsroom environment and the proven ability to meet deadlines.
Experience with HTML or content management systems is preferred.
Excellent command of Excel, as well as data analysis and visualization tools.
Working knowledge of EU and/or national European politics and policy is a plus.
Degrees and training in data journalism or one year of demonstrated experience are preferred.
Written and verbal fluency in English is a must. Candidates should have acute attention to detail and accuracy, as well as enthusiasm to be a team player.
