Who is MLex

Founded in 2005, MLex is an innovative media organisation providing exclusive market insight, analysis and commentary on regulatory risk.  MLex’s coverage spans the world’s foremost regulators in the US, Europe, Asia and Latin America, offering up-to-the-minute coverage of regulatory threats and opportunities.

MLex employs an investigative journalistic approach and forensic coverage of cases via an unrivalled team of experienced and expert reporters, qualified lawyers and industry experts. MLex will help LexisNexis better serve the rapidly changing customer needs in the area of legal and regulatory news, insight and analysis.

MLex is a truly global business that serves customers in North America, Continental Europe, the UK, Asia and Latin America. The MLex organisation operates out of various offices around the world including London, Brussels, Washington D.C., Hong-Kong, San Francisco and Sao Paolo.

MLex is looking for an experienced tech/telco correspondent to contribute to our growing European coverage of the major emerging regulatory risks in digital services.

Purpose of the role:

The role is a new one, as we build out our existing digital-risk team across the globe, with parallel expansion taking place in North America and Asia.

The successful candidate will be a senior point person in MLex for European regulatory risk issues from data protection, privacy and cybersecurity to issues surrounding communications connectivity (IoT, net neutrality etc).

The senior correspondent will coordinate on a day to day basis with a senior colleague in London and a correspondent in Brussels, under the guidance of the Global Chief Correspondent in San Francisco, but reporting to the Brussels Managing Editor.

There'll also be frequent collaboration on stories with colleagues in Brussels and across the global network as digital issues arise on beats such as antitrust and financial services.

Key result areas:

  • Complement and enhance our existing Data, Privacy & Security and Tech, Media and Telecom coverage
  • Become a senior voice of authority within the company and to the outside world on the beat.

Key competencies:

The candidate should have in-depth knowledge of the tech and telecom beat, preferably with a track record in covering issues such as data protection, cybersecurity, and connectivity.

Some knowledge of the regulatory/policy sphere is an advantage, but it's more important to display knowledge of the technology itself.

Mother-tongue English is required, and ability in other European languages will be taken into account.

The candidate should have experience of working in a fast-paced newsroom environment such as a newswire or major newspaper, with a proven history of breaking news.

MLex offers an attractive employment package, with competitive salaries to attract and keep talented journalists.

This is an ideal opportunity to spearhead an area of coverage that's likely to emerge as the most significant area of global regulatory risk, with impact well beyond the digital sectors themselves. Our most senior and experienced journalists also become a voice of authority on their beats to the outside world, with conference and media opportunities encouraged.

This is also an ideal opportunity to relocate to a buzzing international city, with an excellent quality of life - a well-kept secret among global capitals.
