Job Details

Debtwire is looking for a driven financial journalist to join its European team as a DACH region reporter on the primary desk.

Do you desire a challenging role in a fast-paced financial news desk, covering a completely off diary beat? Have you got a natural flair for source development and an inquisitive nature? Are you a fluent German speaker? This could be the job for you.

You will join the leading financial newswire for the fixed income markets, which is part of Acuris, an established global financial intelligence and data provider with over 500 reporters worldwide.

You will be delving into private equity-backed companies by developing contacts with the investor community, advisors and private equity firms.

You will write detailed article on deals before they become public, breaking scoops on early-stage deals, new financings, as well as writing some industry-wide trend pieces.

The role will focus on the German-speaking mid market, with a strong emphasis on the direct lending industry, an exciting part of the leveraged finance market which has had explosive growth in recent years.

The private nature of the industry means uncovering information from well-placed sources is the first challenge, but you should also have an analytical mind as this is a highly technical market and you will become a market commentator.

Focusing on off-diary events, you will need to use your initiative to build relationships with investors and bankers to uncover leads, with the support and on the job training. You will work as part of a small, collaborative desk, also contributing to the news flow of the larger Debtwire Europe team.

You will have the opportunity for foreign travel to meet with sources and moderate at conferences.

Candidates with experience in trading, sales or research without journalism experience who would like to make a move into financial journalism will also be considered.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience in a news reporter role, ideally with an investigative, financial focus
  • Fluency in German
  • Experience in the financial markets with a proven desire to write
  • Experience in a market reporting role
  • A self-starter attitude with a cooperative approach

General Competencies:

  • An investigative mind and good writing skills
  • Outstanding networking and contact building skills
  • Excellent time management and communication skills
